The origin of Villa Vounó
An ancient Greek legend says that when God created the world, he passed all the sand on the earth through a sieve. When each land had good soil, he threw the stones in the sieve over his shoulder and created Greece.
Perhaps that partly explains why most of our annual vacations went to Greece. Greece consists of more than 6.000 islands of which only about 250 are inhabited. Each island is unique in its own way and many are still untouched.
At the end of every holiday to a Greek island we asked each other (as a joke) if we would like to live here but we always found a reason why not. Until we ended up on Corfu.
Neither of us will forget how we got off the plane that day and got to know the island for the first time. When we flew over the island during the descent, we already saw how remarkably green and paradise-like the island looked. That first impression has not changed since then. We fell in love with the island and the more we explored it, the more it amazed us.
Also at the end of this holiday we asked each other ‘the question’ and this time Cupid’s arrow had hit the target with both of us. We started to think very strongly about how we would deal with everything.
We contacted a real estate agency in Corfu which helped us to find a suitable building plot because our idea was to build a house ourselves that was suitable for receiving people/guests. After all, we realized that we had to have something to do, we were both too young to do nothing anymore. Then the idea arose to set up a guesthouse.
After several visits to Corfu and countless viewings of potential building plots, we found, accidently, an unfinished stone house (i.e. with only the outer walls) of which we immediately saw the potential. A beautiful 2-storey house that offered a private area as well as sufficient possibilities to furnish 4 guest rooms with 3 rooms each.
That evening we discussed the situation and decided to make an offer on the house.
Our adventure could begin...
